Escape the Cave Class Rolls

Where to roll for a miner class in Escape the Cave: reach the lobby class area after a run, and what a roll changes — a random class plus persistent upgrades.

In Escape the Cave, you don't pick your miner class from a menu at the start — if you're wondering how to get a class, the answer is a roll. Class rolls happen in the lobby after you finish a run: walk past the crown stand and the pet stands, and you reach the class area where a dinosaur NPC stands. Rolling swaps your current class for a random named one, and it also comes with automatic bag-size, cash and gem-gain upgrades that stay with you in future plays.

That sequence comes from a single recorded session: the players escaped in about 14 minutes, banked 120 gems and 240 special coins, found the class spot and rolled their way from Rookie to Heavyweight. The video never shows which button starts a roll or what one costs, so this guide sticks to what it confirms — where to go and what you get.

How to reach the class-roll spot

  1. Finish a run. Escape the cave. The recorded session took about 14 minutes and paid out 120 gems plus 240 of a special coin. If you're still working on the escape itself, the walkthrough covers the route, and our gems guide explains how that currency builds up.
  2. Return to the lobby. The players head straight back after the escape portal, and the lobby is where all the stands line up.
  3. Pass the shops. First comes a crowned stand they expected to buy from, then the pet shop, then a stand selling pet accessories. (The pets were out of their price range that day — the rolls were not the problem.)
  4. Stop at the class area. Right after the pet stands, the narrator spots the class area — it sounds like "classesan" in the captions, so the on-screen spelling may differ — with a dinosaur NPC standing at it. This is where class rolls happen.

What a class roll changes

A roll gives you a random named class and takes the old one away. In the session, the narrator rolls while still on Rookie — the starting class — and comes out as Heavyweight, a result he openly didn't want. His companion CG rolls at the same spot and ends up with Deep Driller. So rolls return varied named classes, and whatever class you had before is replaced rather than kept.

The class the narrator actually hoped for was The Mine King, described in the video as a VIP class — so it exists as a tier above the rest, though the footage doesn't show how it's obtained.

Alongside the new class, upgrades show up automatically: an increased bag size, cash gain, and a boost to gem gain. The players point out these can be used again in the next playthrough, which makes a rolled class a persistent power-up across runs, not just a name change.

Cost, odds and limits to know before you roll

  • The trigger and price aren't shown. The session shows rolls happening, but never the interaction that starts one — no button, prompt or price label appears — so we can't quote a Gem cost. Treat any specific roll price you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
  • Roll odds aren't documented here. Nothing in the footage displays rarity chances for Heavyweight, Deep Driller or The Mine King, so plan for luck rather than a published rate.
  • Rolls replace, they don't stack. The session shows no class inventory or way to switch between stored classes, and whether a roll can hand back the class you already had is unknown.

Before you roll

Because a roll is random and overwrites your current class, it's worth knowing which results are worth keeping — our guide to the best classes in Escape the Cave breaks that down. And if you want to top up before another run, the codes page tracks what's currently live.
