Escape the Cave Pets

How to get pets in Escape the Cave: earn Gems from escape runs or codes, find the lobby pet area, and see which pet benefits are actually confirmed.

Yes, Escape the Cave has pets. They are premium companions you buy with Gems, pitched as "a pet that will become your little helper." You fund one through normal play: finishing an escape run pays Gems (one recorded run ended in about 14 minutes and paid out 120 Gems plus a 240 special-coin bonus), and Escape the Cave codes are a free way to top up. After a run, returning to the lobby brings you back to the hub, where the pet area sits — a dragon and a dinosaur were both seen on display there, and one player's pet was wearing minion glasses.

That is what is currently confirmed. Pet prices, the full roster, pet slots, and any mechanical effect on your mining runs are not documented yet, so this guide covers the route that works and separates proven pet features from assumptions.

How to get a pet in Escape the Cave

The confirmed route to a pet has three grounded steps and one honest gap:

  1. Complete an escape run to earn Gems. Reaching the exit portal finishes the run and pays directly: in one recorded session, a ~14-minute run awarded 120 Gems plus a 240 special-coin bonus. Treat that as one observed payout, not a guaranteed rate — if you need help surviving to the exit, the Escape the Cave walkthrough covers a full run.
  2. Return to the lobby. After the portal, choose return to lobby so your earnings carry back to the hub where the pet area is.
  3. Find the pet area. Pets are displayed in the lobby; a dragon and a dinosaur were both spotted there in one visit.

The gap: the purchase itself has never been shown. No recorded session captures selecting a pet, its Gem price, a confirmation step, or how the pet arrives in your ownership. In the one recorded visit, the players arrived straight from a 120-Gem payout and still found they had nothing to buy with — so whether pets cost more than a single run's Gems or need a different balance is unknown. Plan on banking more than one run's payout before you count on affording one, and expect to check the counter in person for the actual price.

The pets confirmed so far

Two pets are verified by direct sighting at the lobby pet area:

  • A dragon — explicitly sized up as a purchase option during the visit.
  • A dinosaur — noticed as having also been on display nearby.

That is a sighting list, not a catalog. No pet names beyond these, no tiers, no roster count, and no pet slots have been documented, so any page claiming a complete pet index is guessing.

What a pet actually does

Only one pet feature has been demonstrated in-game: cosmetic dress-up. An owned pet was seen wearing pet accessories — including minion glasses — and the players confirmed on the spot that you can dress pets up. If you buy a pet today, outfit customization is the benefit you can count on.

Everything past that is unproven:

  • "Your little helper" is promotional phrasing from a codes article, not a documented mechanic.
  • Bag size, cash, and gem pickup bonuses come from one transcript line praising "automatic bag size, then cash, then gem pickup" — but the same passage is discussing class upgrades that carry into the next run, so the perk can't be fairly credited to the pet versus the class system. Don't buy a pet expecting stat changes.
  • Per-pet differences, persistence between runs, and whether accessories add anything beyond looks are all unknown.

Pets and your mining loop

Until a mechanical pet effect is documented, treat pets as a Gems sink with a confirmed cosmetic payoff. Gems come from escape runs and codes, and one recorded 120-Gem payout was not enough to buy — so save across several runs, or grab free Gems from the codes page, before heading to the pet area. For the full picture on the currency itself, see the Escape the Cave Gems guide — worth a read before you commit your payout to a pet instead of gear.
